REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES
April 2, 2015
Meeting called to order by Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub at 8:33 a.m. in the Courthouse Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan.
Roll called.
COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Crawford, Fleming, Gingell, Gosselin, Long, Matis, Middleton,
Scott, Spisz, Taub, Weipert. (11) EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: Dwyer, Hoffman, Kowall. (3)
Quorum present.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to state that the Commissioners can sign up for an
Economic Luncheon occurring April 30th at 11:00 a.m.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce Bob Daddow, Deputy County Executive.
Bob Daddow, Deputy County Executive, addressed the Caucus to give an update on the Great Lakes Water Authority.
Moved by Spisz supported by Gosselin the minutes of the March 18, 2015 Caucus be approved.
A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved.
The members of the Caucus discussed the Board Agenda.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding Finance Committee item k.: entitled Board of
Commissioners – Proposed City of Birmingham Corridor Improvement Authority Tax Capture “Opt Out”.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding Finance Committee item l.: entitled Information Technology Department – Workstation Services Unit Position Changes and stated it will be
referred to the Human Resources Committee.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce Commissioner Long.
Commissioner Long addressed the Caucus regarding General Government item a.: entitled Health and Human Services Department (DHHS)/Health Division – Deletion of Substance Abuse Prevention
Coordinator Position and stated she will refer it to the Human Resources Committee and the Finance Committee.
Commissioner Long addressed the Caucus regarding General Government item b.: entitled Department
of Health and Human Services/Health Division – 2015/2016 Huron Valley School District Service Agreement Amendment 2 Acceptance and stated that she will refer it to the Finance Committee.

Commissioner Long addressed the Caucus regarding General Government item c: entitled Board of Commissioners – Appointments to the Oakland County Community Mental Health Authority.
Discussion followed.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce Commissioner Spisz.
Commissioner Spisz addressed the Caucus to distribute a packet containing the MAC Legislative Talking
Points for the 98th Michigan Legislature.

Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce Jim VerPleog, Administrative Director Program and Operations Analyst.
Jim VerPleog, Administrative Director Program and Operations Analyst, addressed the Caucus to
introduce and welcome a new employee Katie Layton, Board of Commissioners Community Liaison.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding a Ceremony to follow the proclamation to Care House to create a Pinwheel Garden outside of the County Complex.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce Commissioner Fleming.
Commissioner Fleming addressed the Caucus to state they will be receiving an invitation to the City of
Troy’s 60th Anniversary Event.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce Commissioner Spisz.
Commissioner Spisz addressed the Caucus to introduce a proposed Miscellaneous Resolution entitled Board of Commissioners – Funding of Special Project to Improve Public Access to Gun Safety Devices
and a Limited Gun Buyback Program and stated he will refer it to the Finance Committee.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce two proposed Miscellaneous Resolution entitled Board of Commissioners – Oakland County Designation of the Week of Sunday, April 12 through
Sunday, April 19 as Days of Remembrance and Thursday, April 17 as the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust and Board of Commissioners – Designation of April 24, 2015 as Armenian
Martyrs’ Day in Oakland County and stated that she will request suspension of the Board Rules for immediate consideration.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce Commissioner Fleming.
Commissioner Fleming addressed the Caucus to introduce a proposed Miscellaneous Resolution entitled
Board of Commissioners – Designation of May 2015 as Asian and Pacific American Heritage Month in Oakland County and stated he will refer the resolution to the General Government Committee.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce Jordie Kramer, Director of Human
Resources.
Jordie Kramer, Director of Human Resources, addressed the Caucus to give an introduction of herself as the new Director of Human Resources.
The Caucus adjourned at 11:12 a.m. until April 23, 2015, at 8:30 a.m.
