REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES
October 7, 2015
Meeting called to order by Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub at 6:10 p.m. in the Courthouse Committee
Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan.
Roll called.
COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Crawford, Dwyer, Fleming, Gingell, Gosselin, Hoffman, Kowall, Long, Matis, Middleton, Scott, Spisz, Taub, Weipert. (14)
EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: None. (0)
Quorum present.
Clerk Lisa Brown invited the Commissioners to attend the Meeting of the Board of County Canvassers after the November 3rd, 2015 election to observe the canvassing process.
Moved by Spisz supported by Fleming the minutes of the September 17, 2015 Caucus be approved.
A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved.
George Miller, Director of Health and Human Services, addressed the Caucus regarding the issues of “flu
shots”, West Nile Virus, and the growing concern about prescription drug abuse.
Mark Newman, Director of Public Services, addressed the Caucus regarding a September 28, 2015 call from the City of Royal Oak Police Department requesting assistance in the removal of 84 cats and 7 dogs
from a home in that city.
Discussion followed.
Keith Lerminiaux, Corporation Counsel, addressed the Caucus regarding a former Oakland County Water Resources employee ordered to court for a Show Cause hearing.
Jim VerPloeg addressed the Caucus regarding the Natural Select Open Enrollment deadlines, and a
facilities tour that has been arranged for Thursday, October 29, 2015.
Chairwoman Taub reminded the Caucus there are three remaining Board meetings this year, and a meeting of the sub-committee on the Detroit Institute of Arts October 20, 2015.
The members of the Caucus discussed the Board Agenda.
Commissioner Kowall addressed the Caucus regarding General Government Committee item a.: entitled
MR #15209 - Board of Commissioners – Reform “Strings Attached” Federal Grants to State and Local Governments.

Commissioner Hoffman addressed the Caucus regarding General Government Committee item b.: entitled Board of Commissioners – Appointment to the Oakland County Solid Waste Planning Committee
– General Public.
Discussion followed.
Commissioner Spisz stated Commissioners Zack, Woodward, Jackson, and Gershenson would be introducing resolutions.
Commissioner Zack addressed the Caucus regarding her resolution in support of HB 4898 and SB 339.
The Caucus adjourned at 7:50 p.m. until October 22, 2015, at 8:30 a.m.
