REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES
March 30, 2016
Meeting called to order by Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub at 6:03 p.m. in the Courthouse Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan.
Roll called.
COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Crawford, Dwyer, Fleming, Gingell, Gosselin, Hoffman,
Kochenderfer, Kowall, Long, Middleton, Scott, Spisz, Taub, Weipert. (14) EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: None. (0)
Quorum present.
No one addressed the Caucus during Public Comment.
Moved by Middleton supported by Gosselin the minutes of the March 17, 2016 Caucus be approved.
A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved.
The members of the Caucus discussed the Board Agenda.
Commissioner Middleton addressed the Caucus regarding Finance Committee item c.: Facilities
Management/Facilities Planning and Engineering – South Court Tower Boulevard Replacement Project.
Discussion followed.
Commissioner Long addressed the Caucus regarding General Government committee item c.: Board of Commissioners – Appointments to the Oakland County Community Mental Health Authority and stated
that the four appointees are incumbents.
Commissioner Weipert addressed the Caucus regarding Planning and Building Committee item g.: Water Resources Commissioner (WRC) - Create WRC Business Systems Manager and Special Projects
Manager – WRC Classification and Position Changes.
Commissioner Dwyer addressed the Caucus regarding Public Services Committee items b through m and stated that they will all be referred to the Finance Committee.
Commissioner Fleming addressed the Caucus to introduce a Miscellaneous Resolution entitled: Board of
Commissioners - Designation of May 2016 as Asian and Pacific American Heritage Month in Oakland County. He stated that he will request Suspension of the Board Rules for Immediate Consideration Under
New Business due to time restraints.

Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce two Miscellaneous Resolutions entitled: Board of Commissioners – Oakland County Designation of the Week of Sunday, May 1, 2016
through Sunday, May 8, 2016 as days of Remembrance and Thursday, May 5, 2016 as the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust and Board of Commissioners – Designation of April 24,
2016 as Armenian Martyrs’ Day in Oakland County.
Commissioner Scott addressed the Caucus to introduce a Miscellaneous Resolution entitled: Board of Commissioners – Opposition to Repeal of Michigan Property Tax Exemption for Disabled Veterans.
Discussion followed.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding Proclamations being awarded to the Oakland
County Foster Parents of the Year and to the 2016 Circle of Light Award recipients.
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus and stated that Commissioner Gershenson would make a short presentation regarding the “Oakland County Cares 4 Flint Employee Donation Drive” during Public
Comment. He also stated that he would change the order of the Proclamations presented at the Board of Commissioners Meeting.
Commissioner Spisz addressed the Caucus to introduce a Miscellaneous Resolution entitled: Board of
Commissioners – Designation of June 2016 as National Safety Month in Oakland County and Support of Efforts to Promote Firearms Safety.
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus to introduce a Miscellaneous Resolution entitled: Board of
Commissioners – Partnership with Oakland Schools for an Expanded Safe and Healthy Kids Program to Prevent School Bullying.

Chairperson Shelley Taub introduced Jim VerPloeg, Administration Director, Board of Commissioners.

housekeeping matters.
Chairperson Shelley Taub introduced Julia Ruffin, Senior Community Liaison, Board of Commissioners.
Julia Ruffin, Senior Community Liaison, Board of Commissioners addressed the Caucus regarding “Youth in Government Day” on April 25, 2016.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding the Pinwheel Planting Ceremony to honor
Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month.
The Caucus adjourned at 8:14 p.m. until April 21, 2016, at 8:30 a.m.
