REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES
January 26, 2017
Meeting called to order by Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub at 8:50 a.m. in the Courthouse Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan.
Roll called.
COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Berman, Crawford, Fleming, Gingell, Hoffman, Kochenderfer,
Kowall, Long, Middleton, Spisz, Taub, Tietz, Weipert. (13) EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: Dwyer. (1)
Quorum present.
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus to wish Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds Lisa
Brown a happy birthday and presented her with flowers on behalf of the Republican Caucus.
Commissioner Middleton addressed the Caucus to introduce his wife Kathy Middleton.
Jordie Kramer, Director, Human Resources and Malcolm Brown, Deputy County Executive addressed the Caucus regarding two initiatives the Human Resources Department will be launching. The first initiative is
a Compensation/Job Classification Study of all non-union positions in the County. The second initiative is the development of a Talent Management Advisory Team.

George Miller, Director, Health and Human Services addressed the Caucus regarding Pertussis
(Whooping Cough) cases in Oakland County.
Discussion followed.
Moved by Kowall supported by Kochenderfer the minutes of the January 11, 2017 Caucus be approved.
A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved.
The members of the Caucus discussed the Board Agenda.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding General Government item a.: entitled MR #17000 – Board of Commissioners – Establishment of an Oakland County Human Trafficking Task Force.
She stated that this item will be removed from the Consent Agenda and sent to the Finance Committee.
Commissioner Long addressed the Caucus regarding General Government Committee item h.: entitled Oakland County Community Mental Health Authority – Appointments.

Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding the Road Commission for Oakland County letter arranging meetings for the communities about upcoming road projects. She urged the
commissioners to attend these meetings.
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus to introduce a proposed Miscellaneous Resolution he will be introducing along with Commissioner Weipert entitled: Board of Commissioners – Salary of
Chairperson and Members of the Board of Road Commissioners for Oakland County.
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus regarding the AAA 1-B Opt-Out, the Government Affairs Contract coming up for bid and the Economic Development Symposium on PACE.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce a Miscellaneous Resolution that will be
proposed by Commissioner Woodward entitled: Board of Commissioners – Establishment of an Oakland County Health Care for All Commission.
Commissioner Kowall addressed the Caucus to remind them that the Oakland County Republican
Convention is tonight at 7:00 p.m. and requested that they all be in attendance.
Water Resources Commissioner Jim Nash addressed the Caucus to present a Project Status Update on the Middlebelt Tunnel Project in Farmington Hills.

Chris Ward, Board of Commissioners Administration Director, Program and Operational Analyst
addressed the Caucus regarding the Caucus Memo.

Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding the upcoming State of the County Address.
Gerald Poisson, Deputy County Executive addressed the Caucus regarding the Middlebelt Tunnel Project.
Discussion followed.
The Caucus adjourned at 10:48 a.m. until February 15, 2017, at 6:00 p.m.
