REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES
February 15, 2017
Meeting called to order by Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub at 6:19 p.m. in the Courthouse Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan.
Roll called.
COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Berman, Crawford, Dwyer, Fleming, Gingell, Hoffman,
Kochenderfer, Kowall, Long, Middleton, Spisz, Taub, Tietz, Weipert. (14) EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: None. (0)
Quorum present.
Keith Lerminiaux, Corporation Counsel, addressed the Caucus regarding a court case addressing prayer
before Board of Commissioners meetings.
Discussion followed
Bob Daddow, Deputy County Executive, addressed the Caucus regarding the 21st Century Infrastructure Commission.
Discussion followed.
Jim Ryan, Oakland County Legislative Lobbyist, addressed the Caucus to invite the Commissioners to
the Oakland County Legislative Breakfast on March 3, 2017.
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus to acknowledge a thank you card from Lisa Brown, Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds.
Moved by Middleton supported by Crawford the minutes of the January 26, 2017 Caucus be approved.
A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved.
The members of the Caucus discussed the Board Agenda.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding the Suspension List and stated that MR
#17020 will be removed from the Agenda.
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus regarding MR #17012 – Economic Development and Community Affairs – Resolution Approving the Provisions of a Brownfield Plan Amendment for the Village
of Bloomfield – City of Pontiac Project. He stated that the resolution will be brought up for reconsideration under Special Order of Business.

Chris Ward, Board of Commissioners Administration Director, Program and Operational Analyst addressed the Caucus regarding the reconsideration procedure and the Caucus Memo.
Discussion followed.
Commissioner Bowman addressed the Caucus to introduce a proposed Miscellaneous Resolution
entitled: Board of Commissioners – Designation of February 2017 as African American History Month in Oakland County. He stated that he will request suspension of the Board rules for immediate
consideration.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding the Michigan Association of Counties.
Commissioner Middleton addressed the Caucus regarding the Clarkston Optimist Club.
Commissioner Crawford addressed the Caucus regarding Planning and Building Committee item d.: entitled Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission – Acquisition of a 2.7-Acre Parcel
Located at 9821 Sashabaw Road in Independence Township, Michigan for the Expansion of the Independence Oaks County Park.

Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus regarding General Government Committee item c.: entitled
Board of Commissioners – Salary of Chairperson and Members of the Board of Road Commissioners for Oakland County.
Discussion followed.
Chairperson Shelley Taub announced a General Government Committee meeting immediately following
the Caucus.
The Caucus adjourned at 8:46 p.m. until March 15, 2017, at 6:00 p.m.
