REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES
June 15, 2017
Meeting called to order by Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub at 8:42 a.m. in the Courthouse Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan.
Roll called.
COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Berman, Crawford, Dwyer, Fleming, Gingell, Hoffman,
Kochenderfer, Long, Middleton, Spisz, Taub, Weipert. (12) EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: Kowall, Tietz. (2)
Quorum present.
Phil Bertolini, Deputy County Executive addressed the Caucus to introduce Mike Timm, an Appointee for
Director of Information Technology during public comment.
Dan Stencil, Executive Officer, Parks and Recreation, Sue Wells, Manager, Parks and Recreation and Melissa Prowse, Supervisor, Parks and Recreation Planning gave a presentation entitled Parks and
Recreation Five Year Recreation Master Plan and Southeast Oakland Strategy – Republican Caucus June 15, 2017.
Discussion followed.
Moved by Long supported by Berman the minutes of the May 25, 2017 Caucus be approved.
A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved.
The members of the Caucus discussed the Board Agenda.
Commissioner Middleton addressed the Caucus regarding Planning and Building Committee items
b.: entitled Parks and Recreation - 2017 Clarkston Area Optimist Club Grant Acceptance – Archery Range Development and; c.: Parks and Recreation – 2017 Clarkston Area Optimist Club Grant
Acceptance – Fishing Derby at Independence Oaks and requested that these items be moved from the Consent Agenda to the Regular Agenda.
Commissioner Middleton addressed the Caucus regarding Finance Committee item g.: entitled Facilities
Planning and Engineering (FPE)/Sheriff’s Office (SO) – Jail Kitchen Flooring and Dishwasher Replacement Project.

Commissioner Long addressed the Caucus regarding General Government Committee items c.: entitled
Board of Commissioners - County Executive Appointment - Director of Information Technology and; d.: entitled Board of Commissioners – Support HB 4651 and SB 400 – Amend Public Act 32 of 1986,
Emergency Telephone Service Enabling Act.

Bob Daddow, Deputy County Executive addressed the Caucus regarding General Government Committee item d.: entitled Board of Commissioners – Support HB 4651 and SB 400 – Amend Public Act
32 of 1986, Emergency Telephone Service Enabling Act; and stated how it’s funded.
Commissioner Dwyer addressed the Caucus regarding Public Services Committee item e.: entitled MR #17163 – Circuit Court – Position Creations and Position Reclassification.
Discussion followed.
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus to introduce three proposed Miscellaneous Resolutions
entitled Board of Commissioners – Support the Selection of Selfridge Air National Guard Base for the F-35 Lightning II Fighter, Board of Commissioners – Dissolution of the Oakland County Friend of the Court
Citizens Advisory Committee; and Board of Commissioners – Designation of June 2017 as Immigrant Heritage Month in Oakland County and requested suspension of the Board Rules for immediate
consideration. He also addressed the Caucus regarding a proposed Miscellaneous Resolution that Commissioner Gershenson will introduce entitled Board of Commissioners – Support to Shut Down the
Enbridge Line 5 Pipeline Under the Straits of Mackinac; and a proposed Miscellaneous Resolution Commissioner Zack will introduce entitled Board of Commissioners – Rename and Increase Support of
Local Road Improvement Matching Fund Program.

Gerald Poisson, Deputy County Executive addressed the Caucus regarding a proposed Miscellaneous Resolution being introduced by Commissioner Zack entitled - Board of Commissioners – Rename and
Increase Support of Local Road Improvement Matching Fund Program
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce two proposed Miscellaneous Resolutions entitled: Board of Commissioners – Protecting the Funding and Preservation of Public Oversight and
Delivery of Community Mental Health Services; and Board of Commissioners – Audit of Collection and Remittance of Emergency 911 Fees by Communication Service Providers.
Eric Wilson, Chairman of the Road Commission addressed the Caucus to give an update on the Local
Road Improvement Projects.
Commissioner Middleton addressed the Caucus to introduce Dan Fife and his wife; and Kathy Middleton, President of Clarkston Optimist Club.
The Caucus adjourned at 11:19 a.m. until July 19, 2017, at 6:00 p.m.
