REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES
September 28, 2017
Meeting called to order by Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub at 8:55 a.m. in the Courthouse Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan.
Roll called.
COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Berman, Crawford, Dwyer, Fleming, Gingell, Hoffman,
Kochenderfer, Middleton, Taub, Tietz, Weipert. (11) EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: Kowall, Long, Spisz. (3)
Quorum present.
No one addressed the Caucus during Public Comment.
Ella Gerber, Elections Specialist addressed the Caucus regarding the Quarterly Campaign Finance
reports due October 25, 2017.
Discussion followed.
Commissioner Berman addressed the Caucus regarding the Flower Fund.
Moved by Fleming supported by Crawford the minutes of the September 6, 2017 Caucus be approved.
A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved.
The members of the Caucus discussed the Board Agenda.
Commissioner Middleton addressed the Caucus regarding Finance Committee item d.: entitled Fiscal Year 2018 General Appropriations Act and 2018 County General Property Tax Rates.
Discussion followed.
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus regarding Finance Committee item d.: entitled Fiscal Year
2018 General Appropriations Act and 2018 County General Property Tax Rates and four proposed Miscellaneous Resolutions that will amend it.
Discussion followed.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding General Government Committee item
e.: entitled Board of Commissioners – Appointments to the Board of County Canvassers.

Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding the Caucus Memo. She reminded everyone that open enrollment for county benefits ends October 4, 2017 and that a new staff member has been
hired for the Community Liaison position.
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus regarding a proposed Miscellaneous Resolution entitled: Board of Commissioners – Tri-Party Road Improvement Program Fiscal Year 2017
Appropriation – Charter Township of Orion – Reconstruction of Stadium Drive from M-24 to Stadium Elementary School – Project No. 53772. He stated the resolution would be referred to the Finance
Committee.
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus regarding a proposed Miscellaneous Resolution entitled: Board of Commissioners – Designation of National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week
September 25-30, 2017. He stated he will request Suspension of the Board Rules for Immediate Consideration under New Business. He also stated that three other proposed Miscellaneous Resolutions
will be introduced and the Commissioners will request Suspension of the Board Rules for Immediate Consideration under New Business on all three of these proposed resolutions also.
Gerald Poisson, Deputy County Executive addressed the Caucus to thank the Board of Commissioners
and the Fiscal Services staff for their work on the Budget.
Mark Newman, Director of Public Services addressed the Caucus and stated that all of the animals have been moved to the new Animal Shelter and Pet Adoption Center. He informed the Caucus that the Grand
Opening will be held on October 4th at 10:00 a.m.
The Caucus adjourned at 10:28 a.m. until October 11, 2017, at 6:00 p.m.
