HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 2018.03.08 - 8067127 OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES March 8, 2018 Meeting called to order by Caucus Vice Chairperson Tom Berman at 8:45 a.m. in the Courthouse Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan. Roll called. COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Berman, Crawford, Dwyer, Fleming, Gingell, Hoffman, Kochenderfer, Kowall, Long, Middleton, Spisz, Tietz, Weipert. (13) EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: Taub. (1) Quorum present. Dr. Timothy Meyer, Deputy County Executive addressed the Caucus to introduce himself. Moved by Middleton supported by Kochenderfer the minutes of the February 21, 2018 Caucus be approved. A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved. The members of the Caucus discussed the Board Agenda. Commissioner Middleton addressed the Caucus regarding the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Agreement with the City of Southfield. Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus regarding the Motion to Discharge MR #17349 – Board of Commissioners – Oppose Senate Bills 584, 585 and 586 – Authorizing Individuals to Carry Concealed Weapons in Churches, Schools, Stadiums, Bars and Other Designated Gun-Free Zones. He added that Commissioner Woodward will be Requesting Suspension of Board Rules for Immediate Consideration and a Motion to Discharge MR #18064 – Board of Commissioners – Call for Action by the United States Congress and the Michigan Legislature to Protect Students from Gun Violence. Discussion followed. Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus and stated that there will be seven proposed Miscellaneous Resolutions introduced tonight that will all be requesting Suspension of Board Rules for Immediate Consideration under New Business. Discussion followed. Robert Daddow, Deputy County Executive, addressed the Caucus regarding a proposed Miscellaneous Resolution entitled: Board of Commissioners – Transparency and Accountability Concerns Involving the Great Lakes Water Authority’s Recent Class Action Settlements. Discussion followed. Republican Caucus Minutes Continued. March 8, 2018 128 Vice Chairperson Tom Berman addressed the Caucus regarding the Caucus Memo. He also reminded the Commissioners that there will be a TIF Committee meeting immediately following the Caucus. Commissioner Middleton addressed the Caucus regarding a proposed Miscellaneous Resolution he will be introducing entitled: Board of Commissioners – Support Senate Bill 469 - Restoration of the Historic Preservation Tax Credit Program.
