OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES
August 9, 2018 Meeting called to order by Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub at 8:53 a.m. in the Courthouse Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan. Roll called.
COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Berman, Crawford, Fleming, Gingell, Hoffman, Kochenderfer, Kowall, Long, Middleton, Spisz, Taub, Tietz, Weipert. (13) EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: Dwyer. (1)
Quorum present.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to congratulate the Commissioners who won their primary races in Tuesday’s election.
Oakland County Clerk - Register of Deeds Lisa Brown addressed the Caucus to inform them that she is conducting an independent review of her office.
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus and stated the Board of Commissioners will form an Ad Hoc
Committee to study Oakland County’s Election System infrastructure, processes and procedures. The Committee’s report will be due in 45 days.
Moved by Crawford supported by Middleton the minutes of the July 19, 2018 Caucus be approved.
A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved.
The members of the Caucus discussed the Board Agenda.
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus regarding General Government Committee item
m.: entitled Board of Commissioners – Library Board Appointment. He stated that the library will be changing locations, and this may be a good time to look into possible changes in the way the library
system is set up.
Gerald Poisson, Deputy County Executive addressed the Caucus regarding the 23 CEO Group and the marketing of the Southeastern Michigan Region.
Discussion followed.
Chris Ward, Board of Commissioners Administration Director, Program and Operational Analyst
addressed the Caucus regarding the Caucus Memo and the new procedure for adding co-sponsors to resolutions. Discussion followed

Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus regarding public comment at the Board of Commissioners meeting about the Probate Court and the correct agency that these matters should be directed to. Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to inform them that today will be the last meeting for Ida
Logan, County Clerk Records Specialist, who is transferring to Risk Management. She thanked Ida for her years of service to the Board and said that her work and positive attitude will be missed. Discussion followed. Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding a proposed Miscellaneous Resolution being
introduced by Commissioner Woodward entitled: Board of Commissioners – Support Michigan House Bill 5857 – Stemming Teenage Opioid Pilfering (STOP) Bill. Discussion followed.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding a permanent seat for Oakland County on the
Executive Board of the Michigan Association of Counties (MAC). She stated that a Commissioner was needed to fill this seat. Commissioner Kowall volunteered to fulfill this appointment. Discussion followed.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to congratulate and say goodbye to Commissioner
