REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES
March 6, 2008
Meeting called to order by Republican Caucus Chairperson Eileen Kowall at 8:45 a.m. in the Courthouse
Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan.
Roll called.
REPUBLICAN COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Bullard, Crawford, Douglas, Gingell, Gosselin,
Jacobsen, Kowall, Long, Middleton, Potter, Potts, Rogers, Scott. (13)
EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: None. (0)
Quorum present.
Moved by Gingell supported by Crawford the minutes of the February 7, 2008 Republican Caucus be
approved.
A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved.
Ron Kagan, Director of the Detroit Zoo, and Lobbyist Kirk Proffit addressed the Republican Caucus and
answered questions regarding funding for the zoo.
Republican Caucus Chairperson, Eileen Kowall, recognized Democratic Commissioner Helaine Zack who
addressed the Caucus regarding SENATE BILL 1135 - THE ZOOLOGICAL AUTHORITIES ACT.
Commissioner Zack introduced BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS – SUPPORT FOR ESTABLISHING A
ZOOLOGICAL AUTHORITY.
The members of the Republican Caucus discussed the Board Agenda.
Deputy County Executive Gerald Poisson addressed the Republican Caucus regarding the voluntary
separation resolution.
Commissioner Sue Ann Douglas introduced BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS – SUPPORT FOR THE
“STOPPED” PROGRAM and BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS – REVISION TO THE CIRCUIT COURT
MEDIATION FUND.
Democratic Commissioner Tim Greimel introduced BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS – SUPPORT FOR
SENATE BILL 720 REQUIRING LICENSING OF SCRAP DEALERS AND PREVENTING TRADE IN
STOLEN GOODS.
Commissioner Rogers, who was appointed Vice Chairperson of the Transportation Committee, gave a
report on the recommendations of the committee.
Judy Cunningham, Corporation Counsel, addressed the Caucus regarding a settled case.
The Republican Caucus adjourned at 9:40 a.m. until March 10, 2008, at 4:30 p.m.
