HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 2008.09.18 - 8467 761 OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES September 18, 2008 Meeting called to order by Republican Caucus Chairperson Eileen Kowall at 8:40 a.m. in the Courthouse Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan. Roll called. REPUBLICAN COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Bullard, Clark, Crawford, Douglas, Gingell, Gosselin, Jacobsen, Kowall, Long, Middleton, Potter, Potts, Rogers, Scott. (14) EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: None. (0) Quorum present. Moved by Potter supported by Scott the minutes of the September 4, 2008, and the September 16, 2008 Republican Caucuses be approved. A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved. There was no public comment. Republican Caucus Chairperson Eileen Kowall welcomed Commissioner Glenn Clark, District 24, to the Republican Caucus. Commissioner Glenn Clark addressed the Caucus and introduced his mother, Judy Hammer, who was in attendance. Republican Caucus Chairperson Eileen Kowall recognized Jeanne Blake, candidate for County Commissioner District 17, and wished her the best of luck in her election campaign. The members of the Republican Caucus discussed the Board Agenda. Commissioner Bill Bullard discussed filling the vacancies left on the General Government and the Personnel Committees, due to the death of Commissioner George W. Suarez. Laurie Van Pelt, Director of Management and Budget, addressed the Caucus and answered questions regarding the Transit Committee Benefit Program for Oakland County Employees. Democratic Commissioner Tim Greimel introduced a proposed resolution entitled Board of Commissioners – Support for Establishment of Energy Trades Institute to Train and Re-train Workers for Michigan’s Future. Pat Coats addressed the Republican Caucus regarding HB 6070 – 911 Surcharge requesting a Resolution be introduced to the Board of Commissioners for immediate consideration. 762 Democratic Commissioner Karen Spector introduced a proposed resolution entitled Board of Commissioners – Proclaiming September 2008 as National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month in Oakland County. Commissioner Sue Ann Douglas discussed an amendment to Agenda Item Finance C. Commissioner David Potts introduced a proposed resolution entitled Board of Commissioners – Resolution to Establish a Regional Partnership for Sustainability. Commissioner David Potts introduced a proposed resolution entitled Board of Commissioners – Resolution to Make Energy Efficiency the Focus of the Regional Partnership for Sustainability. Gerry Poisson, Deputy County Executive, addressed the Republican Caucus regarding the Tri-County Aerotropolis concept. Republican Caucus Chairperson Eileen Kowall introduced County Commissioner - District 16 candidate Shelley Goodman Taub who addressed the Caucus.
