IN RE: AS ORDINANCE TO ESTABLISH THE OAKLAND COUNTY HISTORICAL COMMISSION
To the Oakland County Board of Comissioners
Mr. Chairperson, Ladles and Gentlemen:
The General GOvernment Committee, by Robert V, Pam, Chairperson, having reviewed this
ordinance to establish the Oakland County Historical Commission, reports with the recommendation
that this ordinance be adopted with the following anendments:
Section 5 should read: The members shall be appointed by the Chairperson of the Board of
Con oissionars with the advice and concurrence of the Board of Commissioners...
Seetion 5 should read: The duties of the Historical, Ccomission shall be limited to...
Section 9 should read: The CormIssion shall elect its wan officers and organization.
A new Section 10 should read: The membe-s shell be entitled TO reimbursement f.non county
funds for actual and necessary expenses as determined and approved by the Board of Commissioners.
'A new Section II should read: The oammission shall ae provided with secretarial services
and SUGh other services that may be doomed necessary by the Board Of Lomaissioners.
A new Section 12 should read: If any section, paragraph or sentence of this 0rd:harlot
shei be declered irrealid for any reason, the same shall not affect any other part of this ordinance.

ORDINANCE NO, 20
An Ordinance to asenblish the Oakland County Historical Commission.
The County of Oakland, State of Micliean, hereby ordains:
Section I: There Is hereby established the Oakland County Historical :omission coinpourd
OF Nine (9) members representing the verities geographical areas and historical Interests and groups
in the County.
Section 2: No less than Six (6) members of the Historical COMM15.0011 shell be persons
10-1Q are active In reeegnized historical, historic preservation and genealogical organizations or
activities. 19a, te.›,-Owk Section 3: The members shall be appointed by the Geeeey.-rmeeeme44be with the concurrence of
the Board of Commissioners for Three-year terms provioed that in the first instance, Three members
shall be aPpoInted for a term of One year, Three members shell be appointed for a term of Two years
and Three members shall be appointed far • term of Three years. Thereafter each term shall be a
Three-year term.
Section 4; NO person may serve more than Two consecutive terms.
Section 5: The duties of the Historical CommisSiOn shall Include, but not be limited to,
advising the County Executive and board of Commissioners as to the following matters:
A. The establishment of various education programs, seminars and meeting Which would
contribute to a greater level of history-related activity and understanding in the County;
B. Methods to facilitate greater commocicatioe and cooperation among local, county,
raglone and state historical organizations;
C. ProgramS to preserve existing research materiel and potential acquisitions in usable
form and to establish a county archives for the Storage of such material;
D. Such other matters as may be aopropriate for the Commission to consider.
Section 6: The CommiSsIon shall annually present to the County Executive and board of
almmlssiuners its recommendations as to the expenditures Of County funds and State and Federal grant
funds to be used to promote historical programs within the County.
Section 7: The Commission shall advise the County Executive and Board of Commissiomers
as to the need for funds and the appropriate source therefor.
Section 8: The Commission shalt advISt. the County Executive and board of Commissioners as
to contracts to further various historical purposes, Including, but not limited to, the following:
A. SurveyS of historic structures and sites In the CroanTYi
B. Preparation Of materials for the education of County residents about the County's
heritage;
C. Other programs which the Commission deems necessery and appropriate.
Section 9: The Commission Shell elect its Owe officers and the members shall be entitled
to reimbursement fncel County funds for actual and necessary expenses.
Section ID: The Commission shall be provided with secretariel services aria Such other
services that may be deemed necessary by the County Executive.
Section If any section, paragraph or sentence of this Ordinance shall he declared
invalid for any reason, the same shall not affect any other part of this Ordinance.
