COMMITTEE — TOWNSHIP GOVERNMENT AND SEMCOG
To the Oakland County Board of Commissioners
Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen:
The General Government Committee, having considered appointment to the Solid Waste
Planning Committee for the Township Government and SEMCOG seats on November 12, 2009,
hereby recommends that the following individuals be appointed for a two-year term of October 12,
2009 — October 11, 2011.
Township Government (1)
JoAnn Van Tassel, (Orion Township Trustee), Township Government Representative
Robert DePalma (Groveland Township Supervisor) Designee
(Votes in absence of the Township Government Representative)
Regional Solid Waste Planning Agency (SEMCOG)
Chuck Hersey, Manager, Environmental Programs

DaimlerChrysler Corporation. Retired March 2006.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AM) ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
1971 — 1975 Entry Engineering Position Chrysler
Cooling Systems Engineering — Co-developed analytical methodology to evaluate new vehicle front end
designs for system airflow.
1975 — 1978 Research Engineer Amoco Oil R&D
Prepared yield and economic estimates for licensing proposals for various proprietary refining technologies
including catalytic cracking and reforming.
1978 — 1984 Engineer Ford Motor
Held various engineering assignments including Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) strategy, Wiring
Systems Engineering and Fe! Systems Development
1984 — 2006 DaimlerChrysler
Supervised Cooling Systems Engineering Advanced Design Group of approximately 20 individuals
including union represented employees.
Managed the design and development group for fuel, exhaust and cooling systems for the minivan program.
A complete product cycle from concept to vehicle launch occurred. Management of the system functional,
cost, weight, quality and investment objectives was accomplished.
For the last eight years, managed a group of approximately 30 material science experts as Senior Manager of
Organic Materials Engineering. The Department was responsible for providing materials science expertise to
all product programs.

BS ChE — Wayne State University, 1971
Corporate Training in several areas, including: computer programs, quality control techniques,
management/supervisory training, leadership skills and time management.

Township Government Representative; Robert DePalma, Groveland Township Supervisor, Designee; and
Chuck Hersey, Manager, Environmental Programs to the Solid Waste Planning Committee for a two-year term
ending October 11, 2011 be confirmed.
