The General Goverment Committee, having reviewed the above-referenced
appointment on May 17, 1999, reports with the recommendation that Dr. Grenae
Dudley be appointed to the Family Independence Agency Board to fill the current
vacancy, with the term expiring October 31, 2001.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
THE YOUTH CONNECTION
Dr. Grenae D. Dudley, who was named Executive Director of The Youth Connection, effective May 4, 1993, was
previously Deputy Director of The Children's Center of Wayne County. where she oversaw the delivery of the
organization's many programs and services, supervising a human services staff of over 200 persons.
Dr. Dudley, who joined The Children's Center in 1977 as a clinician, rose to Director of Foster Care in 1980,
Residential Division Director in 1983, Associate Deputy Director in 1986, and Deputy Director in 1938. The
Specialized Foster Care Program she designed received the Innovative Program of the Year in Foster Care Award
from the Michigan Federation of Private Child and Family Agencies in 1986. The abstinence program she
designed received the Go% ernor's Community Service Award.
She is an adjunct professor at Wayne State University's Department of Psychology and on the School of Social
Work's part-time faculty.
She has designed, developed and implemented numerous programs to address the needs of children and their
families, and has served as a consultant to Oakland and Wayne County Juvenile Court psychological clinics, the
Piston and Panasonic speakers bureau and consultant/trainer to Selfridge Air Force, the National Guard Base
Family Advocacy Program and various other organizations.
Dr. Dudley writes a monthly column, 'Parent to Parent;" has co-authored a book, "Sankofa Ceremonies and
Celebrations in the African-American Church." with Reverend Carlyle Fielding Stewart III: conducts local and
national workshops and seminars on professional development, family, women and children's issues, management
and quality improvement, and various other topics: and speaks often--in public and the media—on issues impacting
the lives of children, women, minorities and the community. She has received numerous awards and recognition,
and appointments from Governors Blanchard and Engler to state advisory boards focusing on children and youth
issues.
A licensed psychologist, she holds a B.A. in Psychology ('71). an M.A. in Clinical Psychology (17) and a Ph.D.
in Clinical Psychology (10), all from:Wayne State University. She graduated cum laude from Cass Technical
High School.
Dr. Dudley is active in community activities, serving on the City of Southfield Parent Youth Guidance
Commission. which she headed from 1992 to 1996; the State Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Board; The
Children's Center of Wayne County (which appointed her by acclamation when she left the Center to join The

Youth Connection); and the Zonta Club, Southfield Area, which she headed from 1986 to 1988. She has also
served on the boards of directors of the Black United Fund (1992-1995) and the Wayne State University Alumni
Association (1992-1994), where she was elected vice president in 1994. The Women of Wayne State University
Alumni Association presented her ‘vith their Headliner Award in 1993. Earlier this year, the Women's Informal
Network named her one of The Most Influential Black Women in Metropolitan Detroit
