HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - 2007.10.04 - 9338MISCELLANEOUS RESOLUTION #07228 BY: PLANNING AND BUILDING COMMITTEE, SUE ANN DOUGLAS, CHAIRPERSON IN RE: DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT & COMMUNITY AFFAIRS - WASTE RESOURCE MANAGEMENT - 2007 BEST BUY CONSUMER ELECTRONICS GRANT ACCEPTANCE TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen: WHEREAS the Oakland County Waste Resource Management Unit facilitates the North Oakland Household Hazardous Waste Program (NO HAZ) for residents of northern Oakland County for the purpose of providing household hazardous waste collection services, including collection of computer and electronic waste; and WHEREAS participating member communities reimburse Oakland County for all expenditures associated with the program; and WHEREAS application was made to the Best Buy Company, Inc. for a 2007 Best Buy Consumers Electronics Recycling Program grant in the amount of $3,000; and WHEREAS Best Buy Company, Inc. has awarded Oakland County a 2007 Best Buy Consumers Electronics Recycling Program grant in the amount of $1,500; and WHEREAS the grant award will be utilized to reduce NO HAZ Program costs of participating member communities and will be applied to the 2007 NO HAZ Program's two Fall collection events; and WHEREAS No County Match is required; and WHEREAS a formal signed contract is not required by Best Buy Company, Inc. for acceptance of the grant; and WHEREAS acceptance of this grant award does not obligate the County to any future commitment. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Commissioners accepts the 2007 Best Buy Consumers Electronics Recycling Program grant from the Best Buy Company, Inc. in the amount of $1,500. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that continuation of this program in future years is contingent upon the availability of grant funding. After reviewing your organization's grant application, Best Buy is pleased to be able to provide you with a grant for your program. The amount and details are noted above. Please read the following information carefully, as it is critical to ensure proper payment to your organization. General Information • After you receive this email, please hit reply and let us know you received it, • After we get your reply email, we will send a Best Buy logo in several graphics formats for your use in advertising and promotion associated with the event. We have also included a logo use standards document, • Please send draft copies of all print advertising materials to informatione4partners.com for Best Buy review and approval. • As a grant recipient, your organization may be contacted by Best Buy public relations staff to participate in press activities. If you accept the grant funds, you need to be willing to participate in press activities with Best Buy if necessary. Please include the name of your city, state and the word "results" in the subject line. Please include at least: 1. the number of cars you served at your event; 2. the total pounds of ELECTRONICS you collected at your event (do not include totals for non-electronic items such as appliances or cardboard). • After you receive this notice, you can expect payment for the grant in about 30 days. Gift Card Recipients Only • If you requested Gift Cards, they will come in about the same 30 day period as a grant check. Gift Cards may be distributed as you choose, as long as they are distributed in association with the event. For example, you may give a gift card to the first 100 people attending the event, or you may bundle them and give them to consumers who may have had to pay a fee to recycler their TVs or monitors at your event, etc. Not-for-Profit Organizations If your organization is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization or a 509(a)(2) foundation, please send proof of your status and your federal tax ID to the email address or fax number below. We will be able to process payment only when we receive the tax information. Government entities do not need to send tax exempt paperwork. Grants will range from $500 to $1500 per recycling event. The amount awarded will depend on the size and scope of the event and the population served by the event.
