IN RE: BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS - DECLARE APRIL SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS
MONTH IN OAKLAND COUNTY
TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD CZ COMMISSIONERS
Cnairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen:
WHEREAS the month of April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and
WHEREAS sexual assault is a crime that does not discriminate against
its victims, as both men and women, young and old are victimized by
sexual assault, and
WHEREAS over 5,00C tnc:Laents of sexual assau:7 were reported last year
in Michigan, and
WHEREAS it is estimated that about 5B of sexual assaults remain
unreported, making sexual assault one of the most underreported crimes
in America, and
WHEREAS one in six American women and one in 33 American men has
experienced an attempted or completed sexual assault as a child and/or
as an adult, and
WHEREAS the Oakland County Board of Commissioners has supported the
work of HAVEN, which for 30 years has been worktng toward eliminating
domestic violence and sexual assault and providing services to sexual
assault victims in Oakland County, and
WHEREAS the Oakland County Board of Commissioners recognizes and
supports the efforts of all who labor on beha,lf of sexual assault
victims.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Oakland County Board of Commissioners
declares April to be Sexual Assault Awareness Eonth in Oakland County.

A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the motion to suspend the rules and vote on
MISCELLANEOUS RESOLUTION #08068 — BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS — DECLARE APRIL
SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH IN OAKLAND COUNTY carried.
