HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - 2009.04.23 - 9686Chairperson, we move the adoptio ing Resolvtion. ore rnissioner iiii0 i. -ct #10 / . lie ommissioner District # il McKinne tt Commissioner Eric Coleman Di #23 12 -1 missionerJim Nash D' trict #15 Miscellaneous Resolution # 09093 3 BY: RE: TO: ney Hatchets, District #10, and Jim County Government Week in Commissioners Eric Coleman, District #23, Mattie M Nash, District #15 CA-NriyVv-k,.A t-ck.--7 Board of Commissioners - Recognizing National Oakland County Oakland County Board of Commissioners Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen: WHEREAS the nation's 3,066 counties provide a variety of essential public services to communities serving 300 million Americans; and WHEREAS Oakland County takes seriously its responsibility to protect and enhance the health, welfare and safety of its residents in sensible and cost-effective ways; and WHEREAS many county government initiatives and programs involve the protection of valuable and vulnerable environmental resources in our communities; and WHEREAS the National Association of Counties first celebrated National County Government Week in 1991, to raise public awareness and understanding about the roles and responsibilities of the nation's counties to meet the needs of the community, and NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners hereby proclaims May 3 - 9, 2009, as National County Government Week in Oakland County, with the theme of "Greening Our Future". BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that on April 23, 2009, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners will host the annual Youth in Government Day Program, in which local high school students are invited to meet with their County Commissioner and learn about county government. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners joins in the recognition of the leadership, innovation and valuable service provided by the nation's counties, especially in the protection of our natural resources, including alternative fuels and vehicles, energy efficiency, green buildings, land use, waste management, recycling and water quality. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners welcomes the Youth in Government participants as they continue along their pathway to become our future leaders. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Oakland County Clerk is requested to forward copies of this adopted resolution to the Michigan Association of Counties and the National Association of Counties. Vote on motion to suspend the rules: AYES: McGillivray, Middleton, Nash, Potter, Potts, Schwartz, Scott, Taub, Woodward, Zack, Bullard, Burns, Capello, Douglas, Gershenson, Girigell. Gosselin, Greimel, Hatchett, Jackson, Jacobsen, Long. (22) NAYS: None. (0) A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the motion to suspend the rules and vote on MISCELLANEOUS RESOLUTION #09093 - BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS — RECOGNIZING NATIONAL COUNTY GOVERNMENT WEEK IN OAKLAND COUNTY carried, Moved by Hatchett supported by Nash the resolution be adopted.
