HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - 2009.03.05 - 9854Chairperson, I move adoption of the foregoing resolution. r Sue Ann Douglas, District #12 MISCELLANEOUS RESOLUTION #09 057 By: Sue Ann Douglas, District #12 In Re: Board of Commissioners — Oakland County IVIillage Rate To the Oakland County Board of Commissioners Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen: Whereas, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners is required by State law to set the County millage rate annually; and Whereas, The Oakland County Board of Commissioners has lowered the millage rate 3 times over the last 15 years; and Whereas, the millage rate has remained at 4.19 mills for the past 15 years; and Whereas, The Oakland County Board of Commissioners has not discussed raising the Oakland County MIPage rate for decades; and Whereas, The Oakland County Board of Commissioners respects the need for business to have low taxe s in order to create jobs, grow and prosper. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners is committed to the principle of low taxes and promoting healthy business growth. Be it further resolved that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners is committed to lower property taxes again when economic conditions permit. As a point of order, Commissioner Coulter stated that the resolution was not introduced at the Democraiic Caucus, therefore, it was a violation of Board Rules. Chairperson Bill Bullard, Jr, declared a brief recess to confer with Corporation Counsel. Judy Cunningham, Corporation Counsel, stated that according to Rule 122 the resolution must first b l,e introduced in Caucus, Discussion followed. Moved by Schwartz supported by Douglas to suspend the rules to introduce MISCELLANEOU RESOLUTION #09057 — BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS — OAKLAND COUNTY MILLAGE RATE. Vote on motion to suspend the rules: AYES: Jacobsen, Long, McGillivray, Middleton, Nash, Potter, Potts, Runestad, Schwartz, Scott), Woodward, Bullard, Bums, Capello, Coulter, Douglas, Gingen. Gosselin, Jackson, (19) NAYS: Zack, Gershenson, Greimel, Hatchett. (4) A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the motion to suspend the rules to introduc&I MISCELLANEOUS RESOLUTION #09057 — BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS — OAKLAND COUNTY' MILLAGE RATE carried, I The Chairperson referred the resolution to the Finance Committee.
